THE GREAT BRITISH TOUR
BY OLIVER GERRISH
Bespoke and Beautiful Cultural Experiences
The Great British Tour creates tailor-made tours with special access to the great country houses and historic sites of Britain. We specialise in tours for smaller groups (2-8 guests), but can cater for up to twenty. Our tours also include music and the finest food and drink.
Architectural historian and seasoned hostOliver Gerrish will discuss your preferences and create a bespoke tour around them. It is as simple as that – whether it is a tour of the historic houses of Scotland, or a dash around the Medieval houses and churches of East Anglia, he will tailor-make the tour for you by working with your interests as well as budget.
Why these tours are unique?
Oliver believes passionately that a personal connection is key to the most enjoyable visits. People are often bussed-around historic buildings in a mad rush, with little time to connect with the owners or their story - our clients are welcomed into historic houses as guests, rather than tourists. Oliver also has unmatched access to the country houses of Britain, as well as the best in musical entertainment, and he will also ensure those 'foodies' among our guests feel that they have sampled the best the Country has to offer.
Where can we take you?
We can arrange a tour of private historic houses anywhere in Britain. You can even specify a particular type of building, and we will do the rest.
Where would we stay?
We have personal connections to many of the finest private houses, so we will stay in them if the size of the group allows. We also work with some top boutique hotels for larger groups. Where we stay will depend on the group size - but make no mistake, wherever you stay will be historic and beautiful.

The Country Houses of Northamptonshire and their Treasures
23rd - 29th April 2026
For this special private tour we will be based at Hambleton Hall - a wonderful country house hotel owned by Tim and Stefa Hart.
During the tour we will dine in many of the houses we visit, most of which are still privately owned. Some of the places we are going to have never had groups, so these visits are one-offs, which I know we will enjoy very much. The dining rooms may be magnificent and formal, but we do not need to be - so don’t worry about having an enormous amount of packing! Good shoes would be useful for the walking we will do, as the gardens will also be lovely in April - as nature erupts into Spring!
‘The county of Northamptonshire is justly famous for its historic houses - from ancient castles to the great prodigy houses, from warm brick Queen Anne to Georgian splendour - this is a rather secret region, which is a true delight to explore. Our Victorian home for the week is Hambleton Hall - a rare jewel of a country house hotel’. Oliver Gerrish
