Oliver Gerrish was educated at Harrow School, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a countertenor, and at Cambridge University as an architectural historian. He was a choral scholar at Lichfield Cathedral from 2000-2001. At the age of twenty, Oliver was urged by the late John Cornforth to re-found the long-dormant Young Georgians (the youth chapter of architectural charity The Georgian group), which he successfully led for more than fifteen years. He started writing feature articles for Country Life when he was twenty-two. He interned with both Ben Pentreath and Francis Terry during his early twenties. At the time he considered becoming an architect, but the world of writing, lecturing and tours became his calling instead. He writes regularly for Country Life, and has contributed to the American arts journal Tether, The Georgian and also writes for House & Garden. Oliver organises bespoke country house tours throughout Britain, and has done work for many American societies including the ICAA, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Royal Oak, CEO, Winterthur, and the Decorative Arts Trust. He has worked with groups from Burberry, The Cultavist, Christopher Farr Cloth, Quintessentially and others. Oliver has lectured for Cambridge University, Revolutionary Spaces Boston (US), Fellows Auctioneers, Winterthur, Royal Oak, Studio Ashby, the NEHGS, Rose Uniacke and others. He was a Trustee of the Georgian Group for many years, and has been a trustee of the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust since 2012. He founded their Architectural Awards in 2018. Since 2024 he has sat on the Events Committee of the Norfolk Churches Trust. In 2016 he co-founded Historic Decoration study days at Syon House with interior design consultant Lady Caroline Percy. He is a deputy Lay Vicar in the choirs of both Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral. He shares his passion for architecture, history and music on his Instagram profiles ‘Archmusicman’ and ‘Historicdecoration’. Oliver lives in East Anglia with his wife Zuleika (a gemologist and antique jewellery dealer) and their two children and a Patterdale terrier.

Oliver and Zuleika at the Georgian Group Ball, December 2014.
Oliver Gerrish and Zuleika met through historic buildings. They were both brought up around historic places – Zuleika in Norfolk in the midst of Charles Bridgeman’s famous park at Gunton, and Oliver close to John Nash’s palatial Regent’s Park terraces in London. One of Oliver’s grandfathers moved a ‘Capability’ Brown temple stone by stone to his garden in the 1960s and, along with his parents (a painting restorer and gilder), encouraged him to always look at the extraordinary architecture we can sometimes take for granted - in fact, aged nine, Oliver discovered he was short-sighted after his mother asked him to tell her about the cornice on top of the now forlorn Clandon Park!
Both Oliver and Zuleika, despite being relatively young, have moved in the world of architecture and art for many years – Oliver as chairman of The Young Georgians (the youth chapter of the Georgian Group, which he re-founded in 2001 and led until retiring from the position in 2016), and Zuleika as part of her father’s well-known art business, Michael Parkin Fine Art.

Oliver and Zuleika have a detailed and encyclopedic knowledge of the great houses and art collections of Britain – it seemed natural to make a business out of something they both enjoy so much.
Zuleika and Oliver met in 2010 when the former joined the Young Georgians. They bonded over their shared passion for historic houses. They were married on 24th September 2016.
